The heat exchanger currently delivers an additional 2.2MW of energy per day into the current hot water system , free of charge using waste heat . EMS has subsequently bolstered the system with an additional 40,000L storage capacity and 496kW of heat pumps as part of its phased approach to upgrade the older , less effective steel boiler system currently installed . The system was designed according to the SANS 10252-1 standard and used premium grade SABS approved PP-R for all piping connections . The PP-R pipe is imported by a division of EMS Holdings and is available to the public .
“ We make use of a new , low pressure , fibreglass heat accumulator system that uses high-pressure stainless-steel coils to effectively transfer heat generated from heat pumps without destroying heat stratification within the storage vessel . The material construction of these heat accumulator tanks means that they are easily transported in a deconstructed format and can be assembled on site , within a building by skilled technicians without needing to break down walls or remove a roof to get a bulk system in place , stated Franco Diedericks , CEO .
