Without adequate ability !

Kicking off this issue is an IOPSA article on illegal installations .
This is something that is an issue certainly in qualified plumber ’ s minds . There is a difference between doing an installation and not knowing the standards and making a mistake . The latter has happened to qualified plumbers and all people . But to do so in the hope that ‘ it is fixed , or it will work ’ is reckless , stupid , and incompetent . The article expresses the feelings of all qualified plumbers and should be spread far and wide on readers ’ social media , getting the message to the consumer .
Uwe Putlitz continues the series on tendering with emphasis on Renewable Energy and the impact it has on contracts .
The ARPL programme , which has not had the activity it did in the past , is one article where Plumbing Africa is taking a different angle and looking at the successes of ARPL . We will continue this as a series showing that it is the ideal way of unqualified people to get qualified or at least it offers a sizable chunk of what is needed depending on the level of ‘ experience .’
Vollie Brink , a mind full of knowledge , continues directing our thoughts to the relationship between engineer and plumber .
Our project this issue is different for a few reasons . Not only is it water storage and supplying 300 000 litres of hot water a day for changing rooms , but it is locally designed and elements like the tank are unique .
The second Plumbing Travelling Exhibition catalogue for North West / Rustenburg appears in this issue .
Our feature is sub soil drainage , requested by one of our readers , and it is more than a pipe that carries excess water to wherever and certainly not into the stormwater drain or even the next-door neighbour who is already taking on excess water . Sub soil drainage is a calculated technology , and its role is critical to managing our precious resource .
Also critical is the article on legionella . As our water quality drops in and beyond borders waterborne disease becomes a problem . Legionella developing where water is lying or dead legs is a disease we should not treat lightly and yes , it falls to the plumber to ensure the plumbing is done according to standards .
IAPMO provides a great article , Part one in this issue , on where do astronauts go to Go ! Fascinating how plumbing is shown to be essential no matter where and when .
Patrick Gordon continues his valve series , and we continue with the SA Women in Plumbing series as well as the new Tell me why you became a plumbing contractor .
The CPD questionnaire for registered plumbers continues to offer points and increase or confirm one ’ s knowledge .
We conclude with the last Word regarding standard Marks and the fact that there are three certification bodies , each with their own Mark who certify according to the requirements of S . A . National Standards ( SANS ). As we state in the article , insisting on one only over the others , could well set one up for anti-competitive behaviour . PA
