Harambee and others that have access to funds locally and overseas that go through interviews for potential candidates across the board , great acknowledgement indeed .
BUT we never hear about the successes , those that are taking up ARPL and apprenticeships and the employers that participate . Here is the problem . If one wants to ‘ sell ’ something let us stop writing reams of documents , position papers , surveys , et al . We have been doing this for years – let us instead talk of the successes . This will encourage those outside the formal environment where they can see previously informal folk make something of their lives . This video is a good start which was placed on www . plumbingafricaonline . co . za a few weeks ago : Employer ' s Share Their Experience Video
SO , instead of writing about ARPL yet again Plumbing Africa ( PA ) ferreted out an employee , through IOPSA , who has taken on a few ARPLers and apprentices and chatted to them . What a humbling experience .
Why plumbing PA asked ?
“ I want to make a difference ,” “ I want to make something of myself ,” “ Eventually I want to start my own business ,” “ A new challenge .” They both intend returning to their home province to work there .
Speaking to the mentors , Hdaba Moyo and Aquisa Maseko , they were very proud of their mentees and appreciative of the opportunity to be mentors and contribute to making a difference .
AJC Plumbing is a multi-disciplinary company working in both maintenance and construction based in Edenvale . Present at the session was the company ’ s HR Manager , Pollet Lebeio who together with other duties is responsible for the apprentices and the ARPL process .
Next issue we will look at more successes from BluLever Education . PA
Arthur Claasen of AJC Plumbing arranged that I meet with the youngsters and their mentors one morning .
Jaried was doing his ‘ on the job ’ training under the mentorship of Jordan . Why plumbing , PA asked ?
“ I am a hands-on person and enjoy the technical aspect of plumbing .” What is the worst part of the job ? “ The digging !” All around the table agreed whole heartedly .
Two of the team were ladies , Hlompho Mothobela and Kekeana Mantutununu , both from Limpopo and at EEC College also on the job training with AJC .
“ This will encourage those outside the formal environment where they can see previously informal folk make something of their lives .”
