Doing the right things right

A month away from Spring and we really have not had a winter , or will this month surprise us ?
In this issue we recognise a stalwart of our industry and IOPSA in the Southern Cape , Marius van Wyk who is focusing on other ‘ things ’ he wants to do in his life at the young age of 60 . Best wishes Marius and we know you will still be part of the plumbing industry . to how this was achieved . The innovations introduced throughout the whole building was mind boggling .
We look at the SANS 3088 Water Efficiency in Buildings , which did not receive a great welcome when introduced , but it is a start .
IOPSA has appointed Celeste Le Roux as the new treasurer following on the heels of Mark Pratt , who served a sterling seven years in this position .
We profile Ronelle Pagel , a plumber in Pretoria and an eager member of Women in plumbing .
On the business front we have sage advice from Vishal Haripersad , CEO of Knight Pièsold Engineers on five focus areas for tough times . Also , the ‘ new face of apprenticeships ’ article which , simply put , sets young people up for success . An exciting article especially considering the high unemployment we have in this country amongst the young people .
Vollie Brink discusses the acceptance of the roles and qualifications of disciplines in our world and the need to respect each one ’ s responsibilities .
Our project is The Ridge , the new home of Deloitte at the V & A Waterfront , which received the Green Building Council ’ s six-star rating , which is a fine achievement . Arup , the wet service engineers , provide an insight as
IAPMO discusses water quality , something that is receiving attention in our country for all the wrong reasons . Having unqualified people doing plumbing and employed by local authorities is not helpful .
On the technical side , we look at the PCV again and which way is up or the right way . We review SAPPMA ’ s excellent 1V workshop on combining aspects of business and technical to gain the best effect .
Insulation of exposed pipes is now compulsory via 10400 XA and 10252 . As with everything in plumbing , there is a right way and a wrong way . This is not so much a matter of ‘ what ’ as it is using the correct material which is clearly specified . TIPSASA provides us with the right way and material .
Enjoy the read and share your views with us , after all it is your publication . PA
