36 LAST WORD

Some still do not get it !

The President in his State of the Nation address made it noticeably clear that business is the only one that creates jobs .
“ See how many qualified plumbers have started their own businesses …”
The trade unions and certain political parties clearly have not or do not want to dispose of their out-of-date Marxist / Communistic / Socialistic views . All have been confined to the dustbin decades ago , but we must be subjected to this tunnel vison or blind spot . There are other words that can better describe it but let us leave it at that .
Government enables business to do business by creating an environment that is conducive to investment , limited laws , and the fair treatment of all employees . The entrepreneur has the idea , has , or finds money to develop and open a business which will now EMPLOY PEOPLE . Simplistic , yes , understandable , yes so what then is the problem ?
None so blind as those who will not listen and none so deaf as those who will not hear . That is the problem . These groups would rather stay with their tunnel vision ( the word is used reservedly ) than recognise how many people of all races have started businesses and slowly build them up . Operative word here is “ slowly .”
See how many qualified plumbers have started their own businesses to build them up to large organisations that make profit to be ploughed back into the business and the natural follow through is to employees . We speak here of men and women with proper vision to build up something , a legacy to leave after they have gone , not the hand to mouth operator . Indeed , the latter could be taught better and grow a business that employs more people . Is our education system equipped for this , clearly not ?
Recently I interviewed a young man who had the correct training and started his own business sixteen years ago with one bakkie and himself ; he now has nine teams employing a fair number of people . This is the reality of business . Did government help him , doubt it , did they buy his bakkie , did they give him start-up funding – no - what they gave him was a bunch of laws which he eventually managed to negotiate , most of which lacked any understanding i . e ., BEE . Another story for another time !
The point is really , what must one do when the President of the Country clearly states that business creates jobs , not government , but because it does not suit the narrative of some we are subjected to political rhetoric and noise which detracts from the reality ? Remember the ‘ Big Chief ’ owns a certain fast-food chain plus a few other businesses around ! This was employing people long before he became President to enact some pie in the sky “ government must create jobs ” whine . So , those with a vision and guts , willing to take some tough knocks continue building your businesses and employing staff .
Perhaps our ‘ big boys ’ who supposedly look after business and deal with Government can change the narrative of these tunnel vision folk . ( NEDLAC , BUSA , BBC , etc ,) PA
