DESIGN : DEAR PLUMBERS 29 building water and sanitation and it even goes well with fire engineering , etc .
The problem is that such a multi-specialised engineer may find that their specialisation is not lucrative or there is no market for it and therefore , no work .
The building water services is a competence which is wrongly addressed as a single competence instead of addressing it as ‘’ a part ” of a multifaceted specialist competence .
This engineering work is part of civil engineering and some elements part of mechanical engineering .
The engineer , as civil engineer , ( or mechanical engineer ) must be able to design what happens on the premises of a property but also what happens off-site , such as the municipal water services and this includes rain and storm water and fire water .
The building water services engineer is firstly , a civil engineer , or mechanical engineer and secondly , building services is an “ extra specialised ” competence .
Fire engineering is also a specialised part of the civil engineer or mechanical engineer which not all civil or mechanical engineers want to specialise in .
The training of the engineer depends highly on the source of work in the office or the site .
If the work in the office or on the site does not match the training required for the outcomes required , then the training will not be successful .
The work in the office and the site must match the training requirements and visa versa .
The engineer must also know the competencies of the contractors and the tradesman to be able to apply QA inspections and to see that the installations and construction work is conducted in compliance with norms , standards and as designed . This is an extremely essential element of the work of the engineer and the technologist and technician . PA
