Into the second quarter of 2022 .
Cannot believe we are into the second quarter of the year and by most accounts business is picking up all over .
IOPSA talks about the value of CPD points and the reason for its existence . It is all about growing yourself , improving knowledge and being able to offer an up-todate service to your customer .
We publish the final response from SABS on the SANS 10254 / IOPSA / COC / IPA / PIRB issue which has dogged our industry for over four years . The response is what it is . Bear in mind most of the questions came from industry and showed how misinterpretation of aspects leads to extending the matter . My personal comment at the end with the answers provided wraps this issue up and the matter is now closed . Does the plumbing industry need a Certificate of Compliance ( CoC )? Yes , it does but it is going to be for industry bodies to work on this or go down the statutory route with the Dept of Employment and Labour . ( DOEL ).
Uwe Putlitz continues his excellent series on tendering which those who seek to tender must pay great attention to . Tendering is not for sissies that is for sure . I have great respect for clients who cannot see us when they say , “ we are working on a tender , call me in a weeks ’ time !”
Vollie Brink also balances the engineer and the plumber ’ s role , which together make up a formidable team .
Our feature is on persons with disabilities according to the National Building Regulations . This is an essential role plumbers play in ensuring we abide by the Equality law of the country as well as appreciating the role people with disabilities play in our country and economy and the respect they deserve .
The Project was a first for Plumbing Africa in that we had to ‘ learn ’ about gas , natural gas that is . What an amazing experience which reinforced my thinking that plumbers need to really up-skill themselves in both natural and LP Gas to contribute to their skills base and profitability . The LP Gas Association offers accredited training courses .
Back on the project , The Tyrwhitt Apartments in Rosebank , Joburg , was a challenging one for the Consulting Engineer in that there needed to be some multiple designing to suit the building that caters for a wide selection of apartments up to penthouses .
A good article on the energy side which also offers plumbers opportunities to grow their businesses .
We are making great changes to our exhibition side which the article explains in full detail but the principle is simply that we want to take plumbing to the areas that would not normally attend the static exhibition in Joburg and expose the plumbing industry to technology . Our experience in the field of outdoor exhibitions spans 28 years and we are excited to make this change and look forward to meeting you all in the months to come .
