NEWS 7 << Continued from page 5 After the five years in developing the standard, the testing took approximately a further one and a half years. The SABS had some of the equipment required for testing, while Inox Systems and Easyflex had to supply some of their own testing equipment, which took quite a bit of effort, but once the tests were completed, they received the test report. “We currently have test reports for three of our CSSP diameters: the 15mm OD under the previous testing as a flexible connector, and the 18mm OD and 25mm OD tested under SANS 1689, for hot and cold water distribution. Inox is planning to expand its range by manufacturing smaller and larger diameters, such as 12mm OD, 32mm OD, 37mm OD, and potentially even larger diameters. We have found that the corrugation does decrease flow rates somewhat compared to smooth bore pipes; therefore, we have increased our diameters to offset that difference,” says Ofir Levi. Although the rated pressure and working temperature are 1 000kPa and 100°C, respectively, Inox’s CSSPs can handle much higher temperatures and pressure, and were tested at the SABS at 4 000kPa or 40 bar (with the standard fitting), and at 8 000kPa or 80 bar (with specialised fitting). Due to CSSPs flexibility and the fact that they are supplied in lengths of 30 metres or more, they require less fittings, less joints, and no soldering. The aforementioned allows for a quicker and easier installation, making the overall installation more cost-effective. Plumbers earn CPD points at IOPSA meeting On 22 February 2018, IOPSA Cape Town hosted a most successful and positive plumbers meeting. By Chris Kyle of Calafrica With some 85 people attending and at least 75 signing the register, the topic under discussion was the compliance requirements for the installation of alternate water sources, which has become common practice by necessity in the water- strapped Western Cape area. The presentations were eagerly and positively received, with many questions asked and answered. Certificates of attendance were issued to all in attendance, which entitles the PIRB- registered plumbers to claim CPD points towards their annual required quota. We are living in a rapidly changing world within which the use and protection of our water resources are fast becoming the most important issue to us as human beings. Now just stop and think about this for a while and the role that we as plumbers play in the situation. A huge www.plumbingafrica.co.za Chris Kyle giving the presentation to attendees.
