Every year, the Saving Water and the Earth (SWATe) challenge is the institute’s annual event to celebrate World Plumbing Day, recognising the important role that plumbing plays in sanitation, health, and hygiene. IOPSA’s national marketing manager, Kaela Bell, said that this year, the institute wanted an event that appealed to everyone, was family oriented, and promoted water saving. “IOPSA wanted it [the event] to be a fun, healthy experience for all,” Bell said. Running and cycling hopefuls descended on Huddle Park on a Saturday morning, ready for the Family Fun Run. Young and old gathered at the start for a 5km run, cycle, or walk. The energy and the excitement of the participants were evident as everyone set about the race. During the race, friends, family, and colleagues could be seen having fun and encouraging each other to reach the finish line. Once the race was over, IOPSA president Lea Smith announced the winners. He emphasised that everybody who had participated in the race was a winner. “We are all winners at the end of the day; it’s not about the prizes,” Smith explained. He also expressed gratitude to the participants and the sponsors of the fun run, saying April 2018 Volume 24 I Number 2 Markers for runners and cyclists during the race www.plumbingafrica.co.za
