Emmasdal High School required back-up water for both the school and the hostels.
The problem Burgess’ s client approached it regarding a solution for water outages that constantly occur in the Heidelberg area. When the municipality does water-shedding or works on pipes in the area, it has to isolate the pipes and, subsequently, the schools get cut off. With the site housing not only a school but hostels and accommodation too, not having water is a big issue. So, Burgess was brought in to come up with a solution.
Designing a solution The client specified the amount of backup required and as such, two 10 000l tanks were installed at JW Luckhoff and four 10 000l tanks at Emmasdal High School, creating backup capacity of 20 000l and 40 000l, respectively, for the government schools.
