CPC 2016 Legacy Project
As we move towards the Community Plumbing Challenge, now known as the CPC 2016 Legacy Project, it is fitting that the chairperson of the World Plumbing Council reinforces the WPC’ s commitment to plumbing and the Legacy Project.
WPC chair announcement – Shayne La Combre It is my pleasure to inform you that I have been elected chair of the World Plumbing Council( WPC) for the 2016 – 2019 term. The election was held during the recent WPC Triennial Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa. The 11th WPC Triennial Conference saw plumbing industry representatives from around the world gather to tackle key issues affecting the industry, and the health and well-being of the international community.
Shayne La Combre, chairperson of the World Plumbing Council.
The global partnerships that the WPC has fostered play an important role in the future of the Council in achieving its objective of developing and promoting the standards and an understanding of the plumbing industry worldwide. During the next three years, the WPC will dedicate its efforts in promoting the integral role plumbing plays in societal health and well-being, amenity of the built environment, and environmental protection.
I am excited to accept this challenge and I do not take lightly the importance of this role and the opportunities it can bring to the industry. In my term as chair, together with the newly appointed Executive Board, I plan on further strengthening existing partnerships by actively seeking involvement from key organisations and working to develop new relationships.
The Council places a strong emphasis on the importance of education and training in reaching its key objectives. As chief executive officer of the Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre( PICAC), one of the world’ s leading plumbing industry training facilities, I have seen first-hand the immediate impact of relevant, timely, and innovative training on individual plumbers and subsequently the whole industry. I believe the WPC is perfectly positioned to drive a strategy emphasising the importance of education and training for the entire industry in the years to come.
The WPC will continue to support projects and initiatives around the world to promote education and training within the industry. The Community Plumbing Challenge
WPC
— established in 2015 as a joint initiative between the WPC, IAPMO and WorldSkills— was formed with the purpose of working directly with communities to design, produce, and install sustainable solutions in response to the problems of water quality, supply, and sanitation. The Challenge provides education and training opportunities for members of host communities and the participants. The WPC will work to further increase its support and participation in this and several other global education and training initiatives, such as the Water Innovation Challenge and the WPC’ s scholarship programme.
The WPC will use these projects along with new initiatives to advance the following key messages:
• The importance of access to sanitation and clean drinking water for all.
• The dangers of asbestos and the disastrous effects of lead contamination in plumbing systems on health and well-being.
• The fight against waterborne diseases associated with water supply.
Initiatives such as the Community Plumbing Challenge are the perfect opportunity to highlight these key messages while developing the future leaders of our industry and engaging them with these issues. PA
