Protect the Ag Reserve

SCA vigilantly monitors ongoing and new challenges to our area ’ s environment , farms , and open space , including :
n Overnight stays on farms . The Montgomery County Council this summer will be debating competing proposals to allow landowners and farmers in the Ag Reserve to host overnight visitors . We favor a version of this idea that would allow limited shortterm camping and RV parking on properties of 25 acres or larger . We oppose a version that would permit longer stays by more guests on properties as small as three acres .
n Data Centers . Proposals to build large-scale data centers in Montgomery and Frederick Counties are advancing . One site is in Dickerson . The plans for such facilities need to be complete and transparent — and thoroughly scrutinized .
n Waste management . Montgomery County plans a major overhaul of its waste disposal and recycling processes to make them environmentally cleaner . This is a welcome initiative . We are asking the County to shut down the Dickerson incinerator , a major source of pollution , as one element of the plan .
