In addition , she finds inspiration from leaves , twigs , berries , ferns , and grasses on her farm , in combination with the varied colors and textures of the fibers she uses . She showed me an album prepared as an assignment during a week-long residential workshop led by a renowned fiber artist , in which she gathered items from nature into beautiful complementary groupings that became the basis for more complex designs . Felting captures most of her attention now , as it allows her to meld and manipulate varied textures from wool to silk to cheesecloth with natural found objects , and embellish with embroidery threads or novelty yarns into a unique piece of art . “ A random piece of felt I made will inspire me in a way I can ’ t predict ; I choose a color theme and then just follow my instincts .”
