Calleva
Since 1993, Calleva has provided a wide
range of outdoor adventure experiences
for families in the DMV, including award-
winning summer camps. Calleva’s unique
summer camp has hubs in Maryland &
Virginia, and takes kids to national, state &
county parks to experience the rivers, trails
& forests in our area. Calleva has some-
thing for everyone: day camp programs for
ages 4-12, and week long high adventures
(back-country adventures for teens) all
Butler Camp
Situated on 22 acres adjacent to Seneca Creek State Park, Butler Camp gives children ac-
cess to nature and a connection to the earth. “It’s an outdoor ‘classic’ camp like the one you
remember growing up. You show up with your bag, bug spray, and sunscreen and you spend
the whole day out and about in nature,” says Amy Hughes, Camp Director. Campers ages 3
1⁄2 to 16 explore and play through outdoor activities like fishing, canoeing, tubing, hiking
and ropes course challenges. When children explore the creek, it’s about having fun and
experiencing the natural environment. “It’s that whole sensation of the water against their
legs, just listening to the sounds around them and picking up a big rock and seeing what’s

Valley Mill Camp has been serving families
in the Washington DC area since 1956,
