PLENTY Spring 2020 Plenty Spring 2020-WEB | Page 2

Publisher’s Message By the time you pick up this magazine, spring will be bursting and transforming the bountiful landscape of our County. In fact, the recogni- tion of what we have been blessed with here— the nation’s largest Agricultural Reserve—led us to naming the magazine PLENTY. More than a descriptive moniker, it has become the reply to many questions like: Are you really going to have enough to write about out there? Yes...PLENTY! While there is no shortage of fascinating sto- ries to uncover and share, we are also feeling charged with exploring some of the deeper issues we face that trace back to our agricul- tural roots and underlie our ability to thrive and grow. The health of our soil, for example, may seem like farmers’ business, yet without a rich mantle of earth beneath our feet, the plants, animals and people in our community and around the world actually suffer in ways that are preventable. The truth is, healthy soil is really everyone’s business. In 2020, the 40th Anniversary of the Reserve, we will be asking thought leaders across a spectrum in and beyond the Ag Reserve, beginning with Royce Hanson on page 5, to contribute their wisdom with us in PLENTY about how we can create a more happy and healthy world. We’ll also post their articles and videos online for you to enjoy and share. We hope you will actively participate in telling us what you would like to know more about as it relates to things like heathy food, regenerative agriculture, nature, ecology, climate change and more. We have a strong feeling you have a lot to share. PLENTY, in fact! Thanks for sending your thoughts to: [email protected] Jane Perini & Wib Middleton
