Plenty Sport : EZINE 20 Radio Controlled Racing | Page 5

3 ISSUE № 20, FEB 2016 STEVE ThE “NITRO” ChAMP! Steve St Louis, who runs his own cell phone business, races model cars both for sport and as a form of recreation. He is one of the best Radio Control Racers in Trinidad and Tobago and has been involved in the remote control world for the past 6 years operating everything from cars, planes, helicopters and even drones. As a member of the Queens Park Savannah Radio Control Club (QPS) Steve has already represented the sport in Curacao at the Napa invitational where the team achieved both the 2nd and 3 rd. place placings in the main event. Up next he mentions is the plan “to travel to Ecuador in June 2016 to take part in the FAMAR South American Championship” . Steve is also currently the 2015 national 1/8 scale gt nitro champion. Some of the challenges Steve shares is the fact that the sport could do with greater visibility and education. Radio controlled cars for competitive purposes are actually “scaled down versions of full sized vehicles with mechanical parts which can be powered by Nitro Fuel or battery powered electric motor.” Specific to the competitive aspect of the Sport the atmosphere at events is one of fun and helpfulness on the part of the membership. Steve does admit however that the other members continue to get better and he does have to spend time attempting to keep a step ahead. As such he believes that there is “no such thing as too much practice” and does so even at his home. In terms of the future of the sport, Steve’s aspirations include seeing nationals one day standing side by side with the top names in the world of radio Control model car racing.
