The honey bee runs !
It is not unusual to use the popularity of sport to promote a
noble initiative. And such was the case when the Honey Bee
ran for much needed awareness of the honey industry. This
is an industry in Trinidad and Tobago that requires more
research and innovation in the building of facilities and development of Api-products for the beneficial future of this industry. The Honey Bee expounded that “It’s a great thing to
have all this sweetness on one small island but not caring to preserve and build Apiculture by continuing to
share our knowledge to the younger generation is defeating to our cause of agricultural development as a
whole.” Beekeeping in T&T is a journey taken by a handful
of committed, practical daring persons with the passion to do
this for their sole source/
means of income. Some do it as a part time career, while for others it is an inspiring hobby.
However, in Trinidad and Tobago it has been taken quite lightly
over the years and this needs to change. Within the scope of the
industry there are many avenues for employment, conservation
and sustainable development of api-products.
For the mysterious Honey Bee, the run which occurred at the recent ‘Run for fun 5k’ hosted by the Maritime Financial Group, was
an exhilarating experience mixed with a touch of pride and fear at
the same time. Those who chose to dress as characters choose
to be their favorite TV super hero as stipulated by the officials of
the event. In reminding the objectives, the Honey Bee sited : 1. To
promote the awareness of Beekeeping locally. 2. To promote
Arg's Enterprise for Pollen and Pure Honey and. 3. To make
people aware, that the Honey Bee will soon run again.
