More than two centuries ago the English Poet William Wordsworth wrote his famous sonnet,“ The World Is Too Much With Us,” railing against the rise of materialism and the dehumanizing aspects of the Industrial Revolution. One can only imagine how he would respond waking up in today’ s world with the rush toward the AI Revolution.
And yet there are antidotes to the fire hose of change and uncertainty all around us. Nature with its inspiring landscapes, beautiful patterns and quietude can give us some spaciousness and respite from scrolling screens, texts, and everyday demands on our time.
Comus Sky Farm is just such a nature-rich refuge in the Ag Reserve, with two guest suites available year round. Pets, including horses, are welcome, too. Fifty acres of healthy old growth forests with gentle understory and well-defined trails are there for hiking and just breathing in the stillness. With that in mind, PLENTY magazine took some time to sit with owner Juanita Breland, while looking out over a wide-open vista that invites a perfect sunset viewing.
PLENTY: Comus Sky Farm is such a beautiful sanctuary. Driving into the farm, I was struck by the health and grandeur of the forest— enormous trees and so well managed.
JUANITA: I think the forest looks so healthy because we simply don’ t interfere with it. The trails that run through it take about two hours to walk in their entirety, and they all connect in a loop. They’ re maintained by Randy Woods, my estate manager, who has been with me 21 years. He cuts up the trees that fall from microbursts and we use them for firewood. I couldn’ t run this farm without him— he’ s like family.
