Ceramics is the oldest form of technology we have . After cooking meat , baking clay was the first thing that humans did to chemically alter our environment on purpose . You can ’ t make rice without cooking it in some kind of vessel , so clay pots go hand in hand with agriculture — our whole evolution is connected to it .

In her mid-twenties she married a childhood friend , Matt Hamilton . Unbelievably , they grew up on the same street , went to the same elementary and high schools , enjoyed a wide group of friends , and never dated . What came to pass , however , was a serendipitous full circle , post college , resulting in a wedding band . Soon after , Matt created a residential home building firm , kids came along , and Jennifer helped Matt and applied her artistic skills in graphic arts , with freelance gigs doing old style publication layout on the side .
About this time , in the early 2000s , after years of yearning to live in the county and scouring rural land , Matt and Jennifer bought 25 acres from a dairy farmer and build their dream home , with a view of Sugarloaf Mountain . Part of the purchase included a dairy barn from bygone days , perfect for a ceramics studio ! The original beams were strong , as were the walls . With some extensive drywall work , foundation strengthening , a new concrete floor , running electric and bringing in a kiln and pottery wheels … Jennifer was in business .
