ROAD TRIP

Where there are no wrong turns

BY ELLEN GORDON
Let the soft curves of the road lead you past undulating fields of hay and corn , a sunny pasture with horses grazing , weathered barns in various states of grace , and here and there , grape vines that mark a winery ; the rural byways of the Agricultural Reserve traverse a place very different from the other 81 percent of Montgomery County . Vistas stretch out , inviting the eye to seek the horizon . You ’ ve left behind the vertical lines of the houses , shops , and buildings of Rockville , Silver Spring and Bethesda and arrived at a place that bids you to slow down , breathe , and take in the landscape , maybe even find your peace — or at the least , a nice glass of wine . n That many of these narrow roads still exist is a direct result of a wonderful Montgomery County effort that got its start in 1990 .
