PFAS contamination problem in Maine , and do projects with their El Salvador Sistering Committee . All MOFGA activities are rooted in their visionary values . In addition to their commitment and promotion of organic farming and gardening , they believe in the values of education , sustainability , volunteerism , and ethical decisions grounded in science-based information . MOFGA works to support an economically viable market for producers , processors , consumers and communities , considering the health of people and the environment to produce local food . They believe in economic , environmental , and social justice for all .
I don ’ t know exactly how this
short story about the MOFGA organization can be helpful to the diverse interests of the Ag Reserve , but it seems like both entities came from a similar motivation to encourage and promote local food production , with an emphasis on human and environmental health , thriving communities , and sustainability . The population of Montgomery County is over one million , while the population of Maine is 1.4 million , not that different . However , Maine has about 60 times the land area , with a population density of 44 people per square mile , compared to a density of 2,150 people per square mile in Montgomery County . Considering these and other differences , the challenges and opportunities are very different in the two places . But it is heartening to know that both places have thriving communities of farmers and consumers who have been inspired to address their needs in their particular , local way .
Albert Presgraves has many interests , from sailing to writing to environmental protection . He and his wife Jenny have been organic gardeners for most of their lives . They lived on Peaks Island , Maine for over 30 years , raised two daughters there , while Albert commuted by ferry to the mainland for work , retiring as Town Engineer and Public Works Director for Freeport , in 2016 . They have lived in Freeport since 2015 .
