Protect the Ag Reserve , Sugarloaf Mountain , and Our Environment
Ongoing and new challenges to our area ’ s environment , farms , and open space require persistent vigilance . Sugarloaf Citizens Association is tracking several issues with high-impact potential for our community :
l Real estate developers ’ interest in the Ag Reserve for large-scale event facilities and other commercial enterprises that do not prioritize the preservation of farmland and open space .
l The transformation of the 1,000-acre Dickerson power plant property . About half this land is in the Ag Reserve and zoned as such . The shuttered coal-fired plant will be demolished . The private company that bought 740 acres at this site plans data centers and an energy storage facility .
