Tara Wise emceed this summer ’ s Taste of Riverworks and is its new Performing Arts Program and Events Director . She is an award-winning singer songwriter , performer and producer . Acclaimed New York jazz critic , Karl Ackerman , named her “ Portraits ” jazz album one of the top jazz albums of 2019 on All About Jazz ( Listen at : AdaliaTara . com ).
Riverworks is geared up for a busy fall season . Theater and music classes are already underway . Tara is working with Yunique Music School for early learners , toddlers to young teens . “ I am so excited for our new children ’ s music and theater programs . It ’ s really important to give kids , starting at any age , opportunities to express themselves creatively . Their enthusiasm , and hopefully lifelong love for the arts , enriches all of us and our community ,” says Tara .
September 9th marks the culmination of a UPN-Riverworks Mural Contest that saw over 25 entries submitted from Poolesville middle schoolers . The winner will be announced and their work unveiled as a large display banner in town . Additionally , a monthly concert series has begun for youth and adults .
Riverworks Art Center is an evolving dream born out of tragedy and driven by the passions of Sandy
and David and all who have jumped on board to help . And it ’ s just the beginning . “ For me it ’ s an emotional roller coaster . I see the vision , I have the mission to keep Sydney ’ s energy and memory alive through it . Every little achievement is a step and we have a lot more work to do ,” David muses . “ And so we are always trying to up our game as we go forward , and sometimes I have to convince myself that it ’ s all worth it . I can see it all unfolding , I just want to get there faster and hoping the stakeholders and stewards of this amazing area will respond and support all these efforts .”
