plunged into looking for a space in town to recreate the Watershed experience and take it to the next level . “ Our vision was to tie in the old town with its history to new Poolesville , basically bring that all together ,” says David .
A serendipitous drop-in on the Jamison Real Estate office resulted in the Jamison family deciding to sell the iconic historic Steven ’ s House , which they owned , a couple of doors down . Six months of negotiations took place , mostly between David and Sandy . “ We ’ re crazy ... let ’ s just get in the van ... are we really doing this ...?” Then there was the back and forth with the Jamison family , five of whom owned the property together . David , having revealed his love for the building entered
the well-honed Jamison negotiating dance . In the end , a win-win prevailed and they closed on the property — with masks on — in May .
Sandy and David ’ s vision for bringing the community together through LOCALS is becoming a reality even in the throes of the pandemic . At the same they know how to weave opportunities into positive outcomes . David partners with Madison Fields in Dickerson to feed those in need . “ They supply the ground , fence and greenhouse ; we grow and pick all the fruits vegetables and provide the labor with the sole purpose that 100 % of the produce goes toward feeding people in need ,” assures David . “ Some of the food ends up at WUMCO and the Upcounty Consolidation Hub For Community
Needs at Black Rock Center Arts ( now closed ) where recently some 350 families got food delivered , or they picked it up in neighborhood parking lots ,” Sandy adds . Another example of people helping people and the community coming together at a very challenging time .
Stay tuned for what ’ s next at LOCALS : a walk-up window café with healthy , chef-inspired fare , and in the spring of 2021 , the stately structure with its well-worn original floor boards and warmly inviting rooms will have fine dining on the first floor and chef ’ s tables on the second floor for multicourse dinners with paired wines . But for now , head to LOCALS on the weekends , grab a nosh , kick back with a coffee and enjoy the country air . It ’ s great therapy !
