Farm to table fun and flavor

In the 2021 summer issue of PLENTY we announced a gastronomic challenge : build your own locally grown dinner and send us your recipes ! Two farm market tours , one consisting of five farms on the eastern side of the Agricultural Reserve , and the other of five farms on the western side , were carefully laid out with suggested destinations and directions by Montgomery County ’ s Office of Agriculture .

One intrepid couple from Darnestown , MD , took up the challenge with gusto , visiting farms on both tours to come up with the ingredients for two magnificent dinners . Françoise ( Frankie ) Andre and Apostol Vassilev shot many wonderful photos of farm signage and baskets of fresh farm produce along the way . They then came home ready to enjoy their bounty : pork shops from Fox Hollow Farm , red potatoes for roasting from Homestead Farm ; fruits and vegetables from Lewis Orchards ; and peaches from Kingsbury ’ s Orchard .
