other trail problems. Many organizations offer trail cleanup days so that volunteers can give back to the system they use. Some organizations provide“ trail etiquette” information, for example, urging hikers to step aside for bikers and equestrians on trails open to all, or for any user to give a calm“ heads up” when approaching a horse from behind.
As a general safety rule, all organizations urge people to always take along a charged cell phone, and to let someone know their starting and destination point. While most trails are well marked, with so many options it’ s easy to lose track of forks in the path, and to stay out so long it begins to get dark!
To protect and preserve this precious resource, all those who appreciate the trails can help in some small way. Most importantly, use the trails and enjoy them, knowing that’ s the best way to ensure they are valued for generations to come.
