Susan names most of the beers — it ’ s not easy and they all have meaning , like Straw that Broke Maibock or a blonde brew called A Roll in the Hay . Then there is Bitter Mistake , an unexpected , serendipitous event that produced a popular beer . A recent spin with ChatGPT generated another name : Hoedown Honey Brown . But if the Nehemiah Nectar is their most popular brew , the newest Orange Crush is trending with zero hops and a bitterness index of two .
Hard seltzers are big and very popular at Stone Silo , too . “ The Strawberry Mango is really good !” chimes in Donna . Once the seltzer is brewed plain , Susan infuses it with different flavors of syrups , adjusting for sweetness , testing what tastes good , talking to the bartenders , and doing her final tweaking with customers ’ feedback .
Susan and Don beam when telling their stories . Their staff is fully on board and just as enthusiastic . After years in a highly competitive field , Don attributes his earlier success to putting his team family first and excellent customer care . That climate has been created at Stone Silo Brewery , a place where its neighbors matter , too . Next door , Pam and Mark Giganti , owners of 61 Vineyard , have been very helpful to the Katzenbergers in many ways . “ We love working with them ,” says Don . “ We ’ re adding 4,500 plants to their production . We ’ re not going into the wine business but we love the farming part of that and working
with them . Susan harvests and bottles with them , and I love to harvest and crush ,” says Don .
Late in the day and into the evening people gather around fire pits . The signs are good when you see folks invite strangers to join them around the fire . Susan observes that practically no one seems to be on their phones day or evening . “ That ’ s the amazing thing about this property ,” says Don . “ We ’ re just want to make it a place where people can come and relax . Dozens have told us how much they appreciate Stone Silo and thank us for bringing it to Damascus , where they can enjoy each other and the countryside ,” says Don . And at the end of the day that ’ s what it ’ s all about and something we all need — community .
