S u g a r l o a f C i t i z e n s ’ Ass o c i a t i o n For nearly 45 years, Sugarloaf Citizens’ Association has worked to protect and preserve the Agricultural Reserve—the 93,000 acres of northern Montgomery County zoned in the 1980s for farming, open space, land conservation, and rural life. As a dedicated network of citizens, we monitor and take action when new regulations or zoning, proposed development, or questionable activities threaten the viability of farming or good environmental stewardship in the Ag Reserve and its rural communi- ties. As a result, SCA has established itself as a respected organiza- tion with considerable political clout. All county residents have a stake in protecting the Ag Reserve. We are only as strong as our membership. Please join us. Become a member! Volunteer your time. Montgomery Countryside Alliance Mocoalliance.org Special thanks to these fine sponsors of our September 21, 2019 Farm to Fork Fundraiser. Our current priorities include: n Monitoring the power plant in Dickerson and the garbage incinera- tor that occupies the same site. Both are polluters. n Maintaining strict regulations to protect our streams, rivers, ground- water, and air quality. n Moving the county to a “zero waste” strategy including composting food waste and recycling more paper and plastic. n Fighting for solutions to I-270 and Beltway traffic congestion. Study after study shows that a proposed additional bridge across the Potomac River into the Ag Reserve would be a devastating blow. n Protecting farmland and open space from development pressure and non-agricultural businesses. n Participating in the county’s advisory committee on agri-tourism n Developing a regenerative agriculture demonstration project on Linden Farm to enhance carbon capture in the soil and grow more food for local consumption. n Watershed Cafe 301-972-8755 MCA www.KingsburysOrchard.com Thank you AD Open daily from 9 am to 5 pm with a large selection of peaches, apples and pears See how good fall can taste at Kingsbury’s Orchard!!
