A Season for Giving
Joe Long, of HoneyFX Apiaries in Poolesville, started keeping
bees in 2004 to pollinate the family orchard. He holds fre-
quent beekeeping demos and honey tastings around the re-
gion. His honey collections, including Black & Tan and Honey
Flights, enable people to experience the remarkable range of
flavors and colors that Maryland honeys display across years
and seasons. Find Joe’s honey at [email protected], and
Poolesville Hardware, Savage Farm in Dickerson, and The
Cricket in Ashton, MD. Look for announcements on Pooles-
ville Facebook pages for the seasonal honey flights.
For art lovers, Claire Howard Fine Art in Poolesville
offers paintings inspired by the Agricultural Reserve.
Her “Song from a Winter’s Night” is the view from
her studio window and depicts a winter sunset re-
flecting on the pastures and fields. All the work on
her website is professionally imaged and available
as prints, cards, and giclees. Her studio and gallery
are open by appointment, as well as for the Coun-
tryside Artisans Tour—a self-guided art tour open to
the public. www.clairehoward.net
