Facilities: A variety of multifunctional learning spaces including The
Space, Atrium, The Learning Resources Centre, Science laboratories,
Design Technology, Food and Textiles rooms, Art Studios, Media
Rooms, Drama Studios, a Sports Hall, AstroTurf Pitch, Swimming Pool,
a café and two refectories, a covered playground, lower and upper
playground, multi-sports area, the Diploma Centre and School Hall.

Description: South Island School (SIS) is a dynamic, innovative and
forward-looking school located in a green setting on the south side
of Hong Kong Island. It caters for 1,430 students from 38 different
nations. The school prides itself on its strong learning-focused
philosophy, its international outlook, its personalised curriculum
and its very high academic standards. There is a strong focus in
the school on values and on the development of students’ personal
leadership qualities. SIS fosters a student skill set which is creative
and contemporary, and develops community responsibility under the
banner ‘Making a Difference’. The school makes excellent provision for
children with moderate learning difficulties through a Learning Support
Centre with 24 places.

Curriculum: Years 7-9 follow the IB Middle Years Programme; Years
10-11 follow a broad range of subjects leading to GCSE and IGCSE;

related Programme (IBCP); SIS Diploma Programme for students with
special learning needs.
Mandarin Curriculum: Chinese is available as a first, second and
foreign language.

Features: SIS has a strong emphasis on values and service learning. Its
school philosophy is ‘Making a Difference’. 80 per cent of teachers are
from the UK, Australia and Canada with 20 per cent coming from a rich
and diverse variety of nationalities. The school promotes mother tongue
learning in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish and
other languages by arrangement.

Debenture Info: Non-refundable Capital Levy (NCL): The NCL is

School Council committees. Active steps are taken to engage with
cultural sub groups of the parent body including our Chinese, Korean and
Japanese parents.
University Information: Students graduating from ESF schools in 2018
are attending are attending higher education institutions in 21 different
countries around the world; the most popular being the UK (42%), Hong
Kong (22%), USA (15%) and Canada (10%). Social economic sciences,
science and technology, and medical sciences are the top three most
popular areas of studies.
