A Ban on Cotton Buds, Stirrers
and Plastic Straws
From next April, plastic straws, stirrers and cotton buds will
be banned in England. With overwhelming public support,
the environmental secretary confirmed the ban. Mr. Gove
said, “Urgent and decisive action is needed to tackle plastic
pollution and protect our environment. These items are
often used for just a few minutes but take hundreds of years
to break down, ending up in our seas and oceans and
harming precious marine life. So today I am taking action to
turn the tide on plastic pollution, and ensure we leave our
environment in a better state for future generations.” Let’s
see if Hong Kong will take action.

Protection Department, sponsored by the Environment and Conservation Fund,
has launched the “Reusable Tableware Lending Programme for Large-scale
Events” by providing free delivery, collection and cleaning services of tableware
to large-scale event organisers. All charitable organisations, business entities
and government departments can apply for the services. https://ecc.org.hk
