welcome
to this bumper spring issue of Playtimes.
A
s I think back over the last few weeks and the amount of
sporting activities my children have been
involved with - both in and out of school - I’m happy, and yes, possibly a bit tired!
They have both had so many sporting opportunities in which to participate – be it a road race alongside a
wide selection of schools, a football
enemies, a mixed tag
tournament against clubs they consider to be their arch
rugby tournament , achieving a new personal best in the pool, or simply shooting hoops
with friends on the playground – the chances have been ample. And for this I’m grateful; grateful for the people who
encourage our children to participate. The growth in the personal
skills , team-work and self confidence in
my children is clearly visible – my timid daughter is a tiger on the pitch, and that’s helped her confidence come on leaps
and bounds in all areas of her life. I'm sure you notice the same in your children.
The simple aim of our sports
issue is to encourage sport, and what better encouragement than an article from
Mind HK about the positive benefits of exercise on a child (or anyone’s) mental health ? We also speak to four
people who attended school in Hong Kong and feel their lives have benefitted from sport. We bring you a snapshot of
some sports
day action at schools around Hong Kong, and our fashion shoot is all about movement (we
had great fun shooting at Venture studios (as you can probably tell from the photograph above), and I almost forgot
the sports directory where you can look up the best sports clubs and associations Hong Kong offers so readily.
There’s plenty of non-sport content, too, with advice on weaning a vegetarian or vegan child. We also address
the vitamin debate – should you be giving supplements to your kids? And we share some very cute Easter
recipes from Playtimes favourite Annabel Karmel.
We hope you enjoy tucking into the Playtimes spring issue almost as much as you enjoy tucking into Easter
eggs this month!
Happy Easter,
6
