education Hong Kong Academy "The HKA primary sports day is a long-standing tradition that has evolved over the years. It is a celebration of the students work in class during their sports day unit and an opportunity for them to show positive spirit and sportspersonship when competing against other house teams and fellow students. "The primary sports day is a non- competitive event and includes our youngest learners from playgroup up to our Student Leaders in Grade 5. It is inclusive of all students as they participate in many running, jumping and throwing activities. Every student is encouraged to try their best and all students are recognised and acknowledged for their individual, class, grade, and house achievements whilst also cheering for their peers. We look for students and classes that show evidence of being a committed, caring athlete and sportsperson throughout the event and celebrate our HKA community spirit. "My most favourite memory from sport day happens every year during our opening march. This sees the entire primary school dressed in their colourful sports day T- shirts with signs that that have made to support the Tigers, Dragons, Pandas or Phoenixes. All of the students, from age 3 to 11, are so excited and eager to get the big event started. I also fondly remember watching the winner of a race go back to the last runner and run alongside them until they crossed the finish line. Both students celebrated and acknowledged each others effort and talent. All students are cheered for on sports day at HKA." Spring 2019 61
