news The Keepsake that Keeps Giving! Raise money for your school, class, playgroup or community group with a personalised tea towel to create lasting memories of your little ones. Kids can get creative and have their artwork printed onto tea towels or tiny ones can feature their hand/footprints. The organiser can choose to raise money for a classroom item, raise general funds for the school, or donate to a good cause. This concept means that schools and community groups can receive HKD$50 in fundraising per tea towel. For more information, please visit www.eek.com.hk. Helper Appreciation Month Playtimes is celebrating Helper Appreciation Month again this year with a cinema ticket giveaway. Do you have, or know of, a helper who works incredibly hard? Why not nominate them in our prize giveaway? Four helpers will each win a pair of cinema tickets to see the film of their choice. They will also each receive a $300 gift voucher for Delaneys. If you know of a deserving helper, email a photo of them along with a sentence telling us why they deserve to win to [email protected]. We would love to feature some of the candidates in the magazine and on our Facebook page as an extra “thank you”, although this is optional. g n i v i G BACK Serve-a-thon Last May, HandsOn Hong Kong organised Hong Kong’s first Serve-a- thon, the largest collective volunteerism based event. It gathered over a thousand volunteers who give 2,700 hours to support 15,731 people in need during nine consecutive days of service. This city-wide event will return again from 5-13 May this year. Swim Gear Collection Swimmers from Stingrays Swim Club are collecting second hand goggles, caps, and outsized swimsuits for children in Guyana, South America. This project was initiated by a former Stingrays swimmer who is currently a health volunteer for the Peace Corps in Guyana. Many of the children there swim in underclothes and don’t have any access to swimsuits, goggles or caps. Goggles can be donated at HKIS and a number of other schools. Contact [email protected] for information. 20 20 www.playtimes.com.hk www.playtimes.com.hk The organisers, HandsOn Hong Kong, are hoping to see even more people participating this year and have lined up volunteer activities to support over 50 local non-profits.
