FOOD
Which Fish?
On average, each person in Hong Kong consumes 65.5kg of
seafood every year making Hong Kong the second-largest per
capita consumer of seafood in Asia and the eighth-largest in the
world. Given these figures it’s important we buy fish responsibly. In
a recent Live Reef Food Fish (LRFF) wet market survey across Hong
Kong, seven ‘threatened’ species, five ‘vulnerable’ species and two
‘endangered’ species, including groupers and a wrasse, were found,
highlighting the urgent need for conservation action. Overfishing is a
worldwide phenomenon that affects every country. The solution can
only be found by governments exploring strategies to manage the
trade and fishing of threatened species and by concerted consumer
effort to "Choose Right Today". http://chooserighttoday.org
