Cloves are collected for medicinal purposes . The drug contains the alkaloids chelidonine and cholerythrine , as well as the saponin fikarin , tannins and a lot of vitamin C . In folk medicine , teas against scurvy are prepared from the scurvy . Extracts from the drug are added to baths against warts , hemorrhoids and scabies . It is used for various skin diseases , against rashes and to stop bleeding .
