NEW EQUIPMENT
CHINESE MINING METTLE
By Kim Kemp
Located in Mpumalanga Province, the Arnot coal mine produced around five million tonnes of
coal per year before it was closed in 2015, after Eskom decided not to renew a 40-year coal
supply agreement (CSA) with Arnot, an Eskom-tied mine operated by Exxaro. This resulted in
the need to rehabilitate the mining area.
GEM has reconfigured the buckets on the SYL956H1 to increase the size range from 3.2m 3 to 4.5m 3 .
T
ipper & Co and E&J Construction,
the subsidiaries of Ukubhukuda
Trading, a construction and
rehabilitation company in eMalahleni,
were contracted to carry out the
rehabilitation of the mining area. For
this, a fleet of SANY equipment was
30
OCTOBER 2018
ordered, totalling R15-million. Asian
OEM SANY is one of the largest
equipment manufacturers in the world
and was publicly listed on 3 July 2003.
Goscor Earth Moving (GEM) signed
an agreement with SANY on 17 May last
year, for the international construction and
mining equipment manufacturer to be
incorporated under GEM, operating as a
separate entity within Goscor Group.
