maximum productivity. Rossmin Mine is no exception.
L
ocated on the KwaZulu-Natal South
Coast, Rossmin is an opencast
limestone mining operation in
Port Shepstone. On site is a range
of equipment to ensure maximum
production and minimum downtime.
Barely a year old, Umzimkhulu
Industrial Holdings, trading as Rossmin,
was established in 2010 to mine calcific

and dolomitic limestone, and the mine
opened in March last year. To minimise
fines generation in the production of
calcite and lime, it features a unique
process designed by Osborn.
While the mine has a 30-year license,
mine manager Fana Shozi assures that
there is “sufficient limestone to last more
than one hundred years”, therefore reliable
machines is a crucial factor in the mine’s
success.
