Kgagamela orders a Sany for its chrome operation
Mine contractor Kgagamela Project CC
has acquired a Sany SY335 medium
excavator from Goscor Earth Moving (GEM)
for its chrome mining operation next to
Twickenham mine near Burgersfort in
Mpumalanga.
GEM Sales consultant Murray Leith
and Kgagamela Holding chairman
Norman Mahabe.
According to Murray Leith, GEM sales
consultant, the SY335 is a harsh mining
application, and perfectly suited for the
rugged mining conditions. “This is a
particularly tough mineral, and it makes for
a rough mining environment. All equipment
has to be highly durable, which is where
Sany’s philosophy of only using world-class
components like Isuzu engines and Kawasaki
hydraulics comes into its own,” says Leith.
The SY335 was delivered to site in
August and is already hard at work.
Kgagamela Project CC is an emerging
contractor seeking to make inroads into the
local mining industry. With a relatively small
operation at the outset, it has its sights
set on sustained expansion in the future.
Leith says it is therefore critical for GEM to
establish a longstanding relationship with
Kgagamela and other emerging contractors.
“Emerging contractors are always
looking to take on new equipment,
which is where our access to Goscor
Finance is a major advantage for us. It
is our responsibility to meet our clients’
requirements with the best solutions
possible,” says Leith.
According to Leith the Sany SY335C
medium excavator features an auto
deceleration system that reduces fuel
consumption by 5% to 10%. When an
operation stops for 3.5 seconds, the engine
speed drops automatically to idle level, and
maintains this idling state.
The strengthened structure makes it an
efficient and robust machine for a range
of applications. The dual-pump, dual-circuit
constant power control system means that
the Isuzu engine outputs a continuously
strong operating force.
Drills get the job done at Black Mountain

South African company, Hall Core
Drilling, has deployed their drill rigs
at Vedanta’s Black Mountain base-
metal project in the Northern Cape
Province. Hall Core Drilling has two drill
rigs; one in the valley and one high up
on the mountainside. The one in the
valley is an older model of the surface
core drilling rig, Boyles C6C, from
Epiroc. This rig typically drills 200m deep
holes in a few days and is then moved
to a new location in the valley. On the
mountainside drill site is the new Boyles
C6C drill rig from Epiroc. This one has
the new 2-gear Durahead rotation unit
installed as standard equipment from
the factory in Sweden.
