TRAINING
Laying the foundation
for excellence
By Robyn Grimsley
At the end of August, GLTC launched
its new Training Centre with the aim of
training and upskilling technicians to
work on its machines. The company is
also in the process of being accredited
by the Manufacturing, Engineering
and Related Services Sector Education
and Training Authority (merSETA).

F
ounded in 1984 by George Siddle, over
the past three decades, Goscor has grown
from a relatively small company to a large,
diversified industrial equipment group employing
over 1 000 people, including more than 110
technicians at its Johannesburg site. Its recently
opened Training Centre represents a significant
investment on the part of Goscor Lift Trucks
Company (GLTC) and lays the foundation for
future growth and excellence.
Managing director Darryl Shafto explains that
the success of GLTC to date has been built on
its superior after-sales service. “The integration
of the sales and service departments has been
paramount in ensuring we deliver on our
promise of the lowest total cost of ownership.
The Training Centre is testament to this, and
will certainly continue to differentiate us from
our competitors.”
The Training Centre is the latest development
at GLTC, following the establishment of its Call
Centre and the reorganisation of the service
department to include new features such as a
pre-delivery inspection (PDI) area within the
workshop facility, which opened on 1 April 2017.
The workshop is split into four areas, headed
up by the workshop manager. In addition to
the Training Centre, the three business units
are Electrics, Internal Combustion (IC), and
the PDI hub, for new machines to be checked
before being shipped out to the customer. This
is also the area where any additional upgrades or
modifications required will be implemented, as
well as performing load testing.
