regulations. The engine’s high performance,
long life and reliability under all working
conditions have been proven in many
different markets. The direct fuel injection and
intercooler features not only provide reduced
fuel consumption, but also increase the
engine’s power and torque by providing more
efficient combustion.
Operator control and comfort
The Opera Control System that comes
standard with the HMK 370 LC HD includes
four power modes and three working
modes, allowing the operator to choose
the most suitable mode for the working
conditions of the job at hand. Opera also
continuously monitors the machine’s status
and its most important parameters — such
as the temperature of the water or the
hydraulic oil — and warns the operator
of faults or problems via a fault indicator,
warning lights, and an audible alarm should
anything fall outside of these parameters. If
the engine water temperature or hydraulic
oil temperature exceed certain limits, the
electronic control system decreases the
pump flow rate and engine rpm to enable
the machine to continue working. Opera
also helps to maximise the machine’s
fuel economy and component life, while

comfort, ease of control and versatility, while
ensuring reliable performance with very low
fuel consumption. All fabricated parts, including
the boom, arm, bucket, undercarriage, and
lower and upper frames, have been designed
and produced as heavy duty.
The long track, which comes as standard,
provides a durable platform for the machine,
while the two roller housings in each track
keep track chains straight and prevent
corrosion of the lower rollers, which are
connected to the subframe by pentagonal
fittings, enhancing the strength and lifetime
of the frame. The seals for the upper and
lower rollers and front idlers have a lifetime
seal and are maintenance-free, while the
greased and sealed track pins and bushings
reduce chain noise and extend track life.
The excavator comes fully specced with
an in-line filter that guards against particle
contamination of the hydraulic system,
increasing service life of the hydraulic
components, and hammer lines that allow
for the immediate installation of hydraulic
attachments. Ellis explains that with its 2.2m³
bucket, the mining-specced HMK 370 LC HD
excavator can quickly and cost-effectively
load a 10m³ tipper and is intended to largely
cater for small-scale mining and quarrying
applications.

cooled, turbo diesel Isuzu engine fitted in
the HMK 370 LC HD has been specially
developed for excavator applications,
