Holes in the Hardox 500 steel sheet enable the hydraulic cylinders that reside underneath, on the dual-directional pulling mechanism, to gain purchase, and pull the sheet into the container. months after concept, thanks to a focused R & D department, the result was a patented machine called the Slip Sheet,” he adds proudly.
To get an idea as to the enormous benefit of the system, Mc Vicar explains the loading and unloading process prior to the emergence of the Slip Sheet:“ Within the construction sector, one of the most challenging aspects of loading / unloading a container has been long construction components, such as pipes or steel bars / rods and so on. The traditional method was to use a forklift to lift and manoeuvre the product laterally into the container, with another forklift operator pushing the product into the container from the end. Basically, one person holding while another pushed.”
This was obviously extremely hazardous, for several reasons, many cited above. The Slip Sheet, however, negates all of these hazards.

The entire operation is controlled at the side of the platform.
International media gather around the just-revealed Slip Sheet, which formed part of Combilift’ s launch of its new manufacturing plant in Monaghan, Ireland, in late April 2018.
How it works
Designed specifically for loading and unloading a container, the Slip Sheet is a low, freestanding platform with a dual-directional pulling mechanism, driven by a 37kW three-phase motor, on which a removeable steel sheet is secured. Mc Vicar describes the operation.
“ The Slip Sheet is designed for the client to prepare the full truck load of product at one end of the platform [ which houses the dual-directional pulling mechanism ] and is positioned behind the open container that needs to be loaded. The product is removed from the truck and placed on a Hardox 500 steel slip sheet [ that is secured on the platform ]. The sheet measures 13 × 5m long and 2.2m wide— just short of the width of a standard container,” Mc Vicar explains and adds,“ If you are loading a 12-metre container, the sheet is a little longer than the container that is being loaded, measuring 13 × 6m in length and is designed to go inside the container with a section sticking out onto the platform [ for when it needs to be removed ]. The sheet has holes for securing it to the dual-directional pulling mechanism on which it rests.”
When loaded onto the sheet, the product is easily accessed for securing, reducing the possibility of a load breaking free owing to inadequate securing.
Once the product is loaded onto the sheet, the metal sheet is pulled into the container,
