INDUSTRY INTELLIGENCE A new automation system will improve safety and productivity in underground mines. Epiroc says its Scooptram Automation Total, enabled by the Traffic Management System, will improve safety and productivity by creating a common information environment that controls multiple fleets of loaders. The Traffic Management system operates the fleet and eliminates the risk of collisions in common drifts. The automation area is fully isolated with safety barriers that shuts off the system if personnel or unauthorised vehicles accidently enter. It is possible to bring new vehicles into the area and add them to the Traffic Management System without stopping the production, using the check-in/check-out procedure. "This is a great step forward in our development of automation and information management solutions. Scooptram Automation Total will ensure the safety for underground operators and at the same time improve efficiency," says Vladimir Sysoev, global product manager, Automation. Hitachi excavators cut emissions and fuel consumption Towards automation Hitachi has released the first Hitachi 120t EX1200-7 excavator. The first Hitachi 120t EX1200-7 excavator, a new addition to the EX-7 Series, recently arrived in South Africa, following its launch earlier in the year at Bauma 2019 in Germany. The smallest machine in the EX-7 Series, the EX1200-7, comes in two configurations - backhoe or shovel, and packs a punch with a 4.5% increase in bucket capacity, optimised swing control and an upgraded hydraulic system, including a flow-regeneration valve, which means lower power requirements, lower fuel consumption, and increased pump life. “Fuel efficiency was a major factor in the design of the EX-7 Series because we Cat improves underground air quality recognised the importance of caring for the environment while remaining profitable. These machines make this easier than ever before,” says Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) Africa’s marketing and business development manager, Marius Weber. The electric-controlled main pump and a hydraulic regeneration circuit add to this latest line of machinery, reducing fuel consumption by up to 10% in some models, and also includes a linear-controlled oil cooler and radiator fan clutch throughout the EX-7 Series. In addition, different engine options are available, in particular the FCO (Fuel Consumption Optimisation). Cat’s new underground articulated dump truck (AD45) meets the strictest emissions standards. With a payload of 45 tonnes (t), the new truck is a perfect three-pass match to the Cat R1700 underground loader. The new AD45 continues to deliver the superior speed on grade of its predecessor, the AD45B, and it has the same dimensional envelope even when configured for minimal exhaust emissions. The AD45 is powered by the proven and fuel-efficient Cat C18 engine. The 6-cylinder engine is turbocharged and air- to-air aftercooled, and it produces 439 kW (589 hp) in standard configuration and 447 kW (598 hp) in EU Stage V compliant form. Using the proven Cat Clean Emissions Module to limit both particulate matter and NOx to near zero, the AD45 is certified to meet EU Stage V (equivalent to US EPA Tier 4) and is approved by CANMET for use in underground mines. The module uses selective catalytic reduction with diesel exhaust fluid injection and a diesel Cat AD45 underground truck meets the strictest emissions standards. particulate filter. 4 JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2020 www.equipmentandhire.co.za
