Manitowoc has officially launched an internal mast
operator lift for Potain top-slewing cranes. The
Potain Cab-IN allows for fast, easy, and safe travel to
and from the crane cab, while retaining regular mast
ladder access. It fits inside all K-mast systems of
1.6m, 2m, and 2.45m sections. The system is also
compatible with all Potain chassis, which means it
can be fitted into both existing and new crane models.
The Potain Cab-IN was previewed at Intermat Paris
in April 2018. The design meets French regulations
being implemented in January 2019, which requires
all tower cranes to include a lift when the crane mast
exceeds 30m. The Cab-IN also complies with existing
regulations in the Netherlands and Scandinavia.
The elevator has a maximum weight limit of 200kg,
allowing up to two people to use the lift at the same
time. Maintenance technicians will also benefit from
the lift, as it provides superior mast visibility and access
all the way to the top.
Following a number of serious incidents involving
forward-tipping dumpers, such as overturns and
individuals being struck by dumpers, a Good
Practice Guide on the safe operation of
dumpers has been produced through the Strategic
Forum Plant Safety Group, led by the Construction
Plant-hire Association (CPA) in the UK.
As a result of concerns throughout the
construction plant sector, an Industry Forum for
Dumpers was formed in late 2016 with the overall
objective of avoiding future incidents. A major open
meeting was held in September last year, hosted
by the CPA and CECA (Civil Engineering Contractors
Association). The Industry Forum agreed that a total
of seven principles would be used as a basis of an
industry initiative action plan, including the
production of a safe use publication. The CPA
agreed to produce comprehensive guidance
through the Strategic Forum Plant Safety Group.
Hoffman Equipment in Piscataway, New
Jersey, has acquired Penn-Jersey Machinery’s
assets, and will now offer Volvo Construction

offering through the addition of Volvo CE’s
premium construction equipment to our portfolio,”
says Tim Watters, CEO of Hoffman.
In a deal completed in November last year,
Hoffman will take over Volvo territories previously
covered by Penn-Jersey and Malvese Equipment.
Hoffman is assuming Penn-Jersey’s three
locations in Deptford, Middlesex (New Jersey),
and Lionville (Pennsylvania), adding to Hoffman’s
existing locations in New Jersey and New York.
All Penn-Jersey staff will be offered
employment within the new Hoffman locations.
