Caterpillar announces new executive appointments, organisational changes
Caterpillar has announced the
retirement of three of its vice-
presidents — Paolo Fellin, Greg
Folley, and George Taylor —
effective 1 August 2017, as well
as the appointment of two new
vice-presidents and the launch
of the search for a third. This
announcement comes amid
additional organisational changes
that Caterpillar is undertaking as
part of its previously announced
plan to review and update its
strategy. The organisational
changes will result in the creation
of two new divisions, intended
to drive greater efficiencies and
effectiveness in support of its
customers.
Paolo Fellin, vice-president of
Caterpillar’s Global Construction
& Infrastructure (GCI) division,
has been with the company for
37 years. Fellin joined Caterpillar
in 1980 in Geneva, Switzerland,
and held a series of sales and
marketing positions throughout
Europe, Africa & Middle East
(EAME), as well as product
manager for small excavators
(France) and product manager for
wheel loaders (Belgium). In 2003,
Fellin was appointed industry
manager for Caterpillar’s North
American Commercial Division
(NACD), and a year later the board
of directors named him vice-
president of EAME, including
CIS, Marketing division. In 2009,
he was named vice-president of
EAME Distribution Services,
which was the last position he
held before being appointed to his
current position as vice-president
for GCI in 2013.
Greg Folley, vice-president of
Caterpillar’s Industry Solutions,
Components & Distribution
(ISCD) division, has been with the
company for 22 years. Folley joined
Caterpillar in 1995 after practising
law for 11 years, and he has held
numerous positions in the Human
Services division, including senior
labour relations consultant, human
resources manager, corporate
labour relations manager, UK
HR Shared Services director,
and director of Compensation
& Benefits. In 2008, Caterpillar’s
board of directors named Folley
vice-president of the Core
Components division. From
2009 to 2011, he served as chief
HR officer and from 2011 to
2015, as vice-president of the
Remanufacturing, Components &
Work Tools division, before being
named vice-president of ISCD
in 2016.
George Taylor, vice-president of
the Marketing & Digital division,
has been with the company for 19
years. Before joining Caterpillar
in 1998 as a strategic business
planning services manager, Taylor
worked for IBM, where he began
in 1984 as a systems engineer, and
held several managerial positions
before becoming a client executive
in 1994. After becoming a member
of the Caterpillar team, Taylor
held numerous marketing, product
support, and general management
positions before being named
director and general manager
of the global on-highway truck
group in 2006. In 2015, the board
of directors appointed Taylor as
vice-president of the Customer
Services Support division and,
later, as vice-president of the
Marketing & Digital division.
Chris Snodgrass has been
appointed vice-president of the
newly created Product Support
& Logistics Division (PSLD)
from 1 July 2017, and will report
to Rob Charter, group president
of Customer & Dealer Support.
This division will combine
groups currently located in other
Caterpillar divisions, to drive
collaboration and implement
strategic initiatives. Snodgrass,
who has a bachelor’s degree in
management and organisational
leadership from Concordia
University, joined Caterpillar in
2013 after holding senior and
executive leadership positions with
Meritor and Daimler AG, including
roles in the Mercedes Benz truck
division in Europe, Freightliner
Trucks in North America, and
with engine manufacturer Detroit
Diesel Corporation.
Damien Giraud has been
appointed vice-president of
GCI, taking over from Paolo
Fellin. Giraud, who will be
based in Geneva, Switzerland,
joined Caterpillar in 1998, from
French civil engineering and
construction firm Colas Group.
He has a bachelor’s degree in
engineering from Ecole Des
Mines, Saint Etienne, France,
and a master’s degree from
the International Institute for
Management Development in
Lausanne, Switzerland. Giraud
