Longboarding our

New Staff OVER THE SUMMER and keeping them engaged

Our Recruitment Team works hard to ensure we begin staffing for the new school year as early as February. What this means is that we have teachers and staff hired for August as early as February and we need to ensure we have an engagement plan in place. The more active we are with them, the more likely they will be here in August to start the year with our scholars. We need to stay connected to the new hires at the PLA National Level, as well as the school level. We expect each school leader to create a longboarding plan for all new hires and share with their Regional Directors. As your manager, your Regional Director can be a great thought partner, as well as an accountability partner in terms of execution.

When a teacher is hired, the following happens at the National Level:

1. Welcome Note from HR Generalist and Coordinator

2. Completion of all HR paperwork

3. Invitation in May to participate in the Summer Book Club

4. May- Background checks and fingerprinting

5. June- email addresses are assigned
