the car and finally asked where this thing was. The dinner was held at an event place just outside of my town called the Chalet, which makes a lot of sense to me now because it was pretty much the only place that held big events in the area. This worried me a little because I wondered how many people were actually going to be there. I don’t do very well in crowds of people, especially when I’m out of my element. I had been to the Chalet only one other time. It was for my aunt’s wedding, but it was years before this.

The outside was mostly just snowbanks due to it being mid-winter. I remembered the mural of the outside of the building; There were painted lilacs with leaves that covered about three-quarters of the entire building. The air was so dry and it smelled like salt, which wasn’t the greatest. As soon as we had gotten inside and checked our coats I realized how different the inside looked. The last time I had been there the walls were wood paneling and it made the space seem so small and very dark. This time, it seemed less dark only because there were political poster hanging up literally on every inch of the walls. The room smelled like everybody sprayed their personal fragrance at once. It made me want to go back outside to the salty dry air. The room was also filled with people trying to find their name at their designated tables. I glanced around the room to see if I knew

the things that Senator Hassan has done for New Hampshire. She, and other political figures in New Hampshire, had been doing a lot for the drug crisis. This was something that had effected some of my past and present family members. I turned to my friend and kind of freaked out that she didn’t tell me she’d be there. I followed them to our table and my stomach sank to the floor when our table was the one behind where she was sat.

I knew her face and knew who she was and I was very excited. Even though at the time politics was not my thing, I kept up on current events and was aware of things that would impact me personally. I had, and still have, a lot of admiration for some of
