Eighteen year olds have the so many rights when they reach this age, rights to vote, get married, and serve in the military, and those even younger than 18 can drive and become parents. With that being said, it seems quite strange and contradictory for them to not be able to purchase alcohol. Why if we are legally aloud to do all of these acts, there should be no reason why we cannot do any of the other ones. I am currently in the military and I believe if you’re old enough to serve your country, then you are old enough to drink. Being able to make huge decisions and decipher whether you should proceed with certain situations at age 18 proves that a person can drink responsibly or irresponsibly.

Talking about pushing this to become a law there is obviously a number of negatives that come with it; as do all topics and arguments. It condones younger people start drinking and it may increase the chances of being involved in more alcohol related incidents. “The brain is still going through crucial developments in the teenage years that shouldn’t be interfered with, if at all possible (ProCon.org).” Yes having a higher drinking age clearly displays the seriousness of alcohol consumption, but teenagers have less life experience and can be naïve and immature in their actions because of this, so it’s up to adults as much as themselves to protect them.

Of course there are going to be plenty of people and parents who do not agree with the act of lowering the drinking age, but that goes for any type of argument as well. There are so many pros and cons that come with any topic or argument, but having many reasons to disagree or agree is a great way of displaying your opinion as well as the evidence to prove a point. I believe that it is not a bad idea or suggestion to think about lowering the drinking age to eighteen instead of twenty-one. Following that statement, 18 is the age when an individual or person legally becomes an adult and assumes various rights as well as responsibilities of an adult; therefore, the legal drinking age should be 18 or lower.
