The Syrian civil war started in 2011 after the events of the Arab Spring. The United States and other allied countries decided to back Syrian opposition while other world superpowers like Russia, China and Iran are backing Al Assad and the Syrian government. The Syrian government would receive weapons and munitions from Russia, while the rebel groups would receive weapons and munitions from the United States. This would result in a Cold War esque civil war in Syria. The Syrian government is no stranger to the use of chemical weapons and using them on innocent civilians as a retaliation tactic against rebel groups. The first documented attack began in 2013 during President Obama’s administration and was met with retaliation. Russia would condemn the act of bombing the Syrian government but had promised that there would be no more chemical attacks. This would end just short of two weeks ago when Syria used a chemical bomb on a village killing almost 100 men women and children. This resulted in a full scale assault bombing that was conducted by France, the United Kingdom and the United States. There were 112 tomahawk missiles launched from naval ships and airstrikes on selected locations in the capital of Syria that would manufacture, hold and launch chemical weapons (CBS/AP). These are acts that I believe are unnecessary, dangerous and irresponsible for the United states to conduct.
