For my interview I decided to call my cousin who is a police officer for Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and ask him a few questions about law enforcement and what made him want to join law enforcement. Law enforcement plays a big role in today’s society because they do their best to keep the people safe and help those in need. Interviewing my cousin helped me connect better with the law because it was with someone i was familiar with rather than a stranger. I was able to connect with the person I interviewed and got a better view of understanding law enforcement.

My main purpose for this interview was to get a real-life experience of someone in law enforcement to gain knowledge of what goes on in the force. I got the chance to learn what goes on during a day as a cop. Understanding the amount of risk they take everyday to keep people safe from those who can cause harm. Cops mostly deal with common crimes such as Larson or domestic but occasionally they come across an armed robbery.

My cousin told me a story during the interview which involved him dealing with a crack house. A lady was renting out rooms to drug dealers and then some of the dealers pulled guns on the lady and tried to rob her at gunpoint. He told me about how they had to bring in the dogs to find the guns that were used so that they could charge the criminals with attempted murder. Cases like this gave me insight on how dangerous it is to be a cop and that they aren’t given the acknowledgment they deserve.
